For this trip to DuBois, Katy, my mother-in-law Ollie and I are staying in a log cabin Airbnb tucked into the woods at Treasure Lake, a lake community just north of town. These photos are the outside of the place; I’ll share the inside in another post.

The cabin
It’s a real log cabin, with round logs, a tall stone chimney, a wraparound covered porch held up by big log posts, and a little upstairs balcony. A carved wooden bear stands guard by the front steps. With the leaves coming down and the pines all around it, it feels like a true cabin in the woods.

The covered porch runs along the side of the cabin out to the deck, with log railings, a bench by the door and a chair at the far end. It’s the perfect spot for a morning coffee, watching the leaves drift down.

Out back, the deck sits up above a shaded patio, and the trees are turning red, orange and gold. From the top of the yard you can look down the hill and see the lake through the trees, with a row of kayaks resting on the grass by the water.

About Treasure Lake
Treasure Lake is a semi-private, gated community about 8 miles north of DuBois in Clearfield County. It’s built around its two lakes: Treasure Lake itself, about 379 acres, where motorboats are allowed, and Bimini Lake, about 277 acres, for quieter boating with small motors only. There are also two golf courses, the Gold and the Silver, along with sandy beaches and pools for property owners and their guests.
The whole place has a fun island theme. Beaches and lakes carry Caribbean names like Bimini, Trinidad and New Providence, so it fits right in with the name Treasure Lake. It’s quiet, wooded and peaceful, and in October the fall color is everywhere you look.

Katy and Ollie had to get a picture with the cabin’s carved bear before we headed out for the day. Next up: a look inside the cabin.
