Fog in the Valleys on the Blue Ridge Parkway

Going back through my photos this week, I came across this one from a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and I had to share it.

Layered blue mountain ridges with fog settled in the valleys below a Blue Ridge Parkway overlook, under a blue sky with a long streak of white cloud

I pulled over at an overlook and the fog was still sitting down in the valleys. Ridge after ridge faded off into the distance, each one a little lighter blue than the one in front of it, with a long streak of cloud stretched across the sky above. Right at the edge of the overlook, a few of the trees were just starting to turn.

This picture is actually a still from a video I took that day. Some views you just want to stand there and watch for a while, and this was one of them.

Fall is a great time to be up on the Parkway. If you’re planning a drive, check the National Park Service road closures page before you head out, since sections can close for weather and repairs.
