Yesterday wasn’t much of an adventure, but it turned into a story anyway. The motor on my power recliner finally gave out, so Katy and I went out chair shopping. First stop was Bob’s Discount Furniture, then Ashley.

The funny thing is, both stores had pretty much the same chairs, and the prices at both were ridiculous for what you get.
The biggest letdown was at Bob’s. We found a showroom chair that was ready to go out the door, marked down from $699 to $599. Then I looked it over. The back had rips and scrapes on it, easily $200 to $300 worth of damage. I could have covered that up myself, so I asked if they could come down a little more. The answer was no: since it was already marked down, he couldn’t take it down any further.
Here’s the kicker. It’s the same chair my mother-in-law has, and hers is over two years old. This floor model had to be at least three years old. $599 for a beat-up, three-year-old showroom chair? No thanks. I expected a little more willingness to work with a customer.

Ashley wasn’t any better on price. A very similar power recliner was $989.99, or “only” $17 a month for 60 months. So the hunt continues.
After all that running around, Katy and I needed a break, so we stopped for a late breakfast at First Watch. It was our first time at that location, and the food was good. That was the best part of the day.

Have you found a power recliner that’s actually worth the money? Let me know in the comments. I’m still looking.
