When Hurricane Isaias grew into a Category 3 storm and headed for the Florida Panhandle and Alabama coast late last week, hams were ready. The Hurricane Watch Net came up Friday morning, October 9, on 14.325 MHz and 7.268 MHz, collecting weather and damage reports for the National Hurricane Center. WX4NHC, the amateur station at the hurricane center, joined that evening.
The ARRL North Florida Section asked operators to set casual contacts aside so storm nets had room to work, and the Hurricane Watch Net wrapped up its Isaias operations on Saturday. It is a good reminder to know those frequencies and keep them clear whenever a storm net is running.
