A Day at the Lake with Family and Good Company

Some days on a trip are about seeing new things. Yesterday was not one of those days, and that was the whole point. We spent most of it right here at the lake, doing a whole lot of nothing, and then my sister Corilee and my brother-in-law Grant came up to visit and stayed the night. Good company, a little fresh air, and no place we had to be.

Here is how the day went.

Morning: quiet time on the dock

The day started gray and still, the kind of morning where the lake is calm and the trees on the far shore are just starting to turn. Katy and I walked down to the dock and just took it all in.

A visitor in the yard

Our usual morning guest stopped by again. This one walked right up the yard, stopped, and gave us a good long look before going back to the grass.

Slowing down on the deck

Most of the day was spent outside on the deck, feet up, talking and laughing. Nobody was in a hurry, and nobody needed to be.

Company arrives

In the afternoon Corilee and Grant pulled in, and right on cue the clouds broke up and the sun came out. First stop was a tour of the cabin. That log loft gets a reaction from everybody.

Family on the dock

Then it was back down to the water for some pictures. Blue sky, fall colors starting along the shore, and family on the dock. It does not get much better than that.

The family photo

We had to get one of everybody together with the lake behind us. This is the one that is going on the fridge.

Evening: around the fire

When it got dark we lit the fire, pulled up our chairs, and just sat and talked. Turn the sound up on this one.

Days like this are what we came for. Being away from home is nice, but being away from home with family around you is even better. Thank you, Corilee and Grant, for making the trip up. Already looking forward to the next one.
