Good morning! 🍂 It’s our last full day in the DuBois area before we head home to Virginia tomorrow, so we’re keeping it easy: a short drive to the “Weather Capital of the World” and one more lap around downtown DuBois.

Punxsutawney

You don’t have to wait for February 2 to visit Phil’s hometown. Swing by Gobbler’s Knob, the wooded hilltop where the famous forecast happens, see Phil’s Burrow in town, and go groundhog-spotting: painted fiberglass Phil statues dressed as everything from firemen to bagpipers are scattered all over Punxsutawney.

Heads up: the Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center (201 N. Findley St.) is open Thursday through Sunday only, so it’s closed on Tuesdays. If you’re visiting later in the week, it’s a fun, kid-friendly stop in a historic 1914 post office.

Back in DuBois

Spend the afternoon in downtown DuBois. Browse the Winkler Gallery of Fine Arts, a co-op showcasing local artists, and check what’s on at the historic Reitz Theater. Then grab a good local dinner and toast the trip.

Still have energy? The Elk Country Visitor Center in Benezette stays open until 8 PM through October, and evenings are prime time to catch the elk during the rut.

Thanks for following along on our DuBois adventure! Next stop: home. 🚗🍁
